NEWS & RESOURCES

Study Recruitment. Curtin University are seeking health professionals’ perspectives on performance and image enhancing drug (PIED) injection, service encounters with PIED consumers, and health concerns associated with PIED injecting. The purpose of the study is to improve understandings of PIED use to inform effective, targeted PIED-related hepatitis C prevention education and other health information.

New Resources: 7 Good Reasons to Test for HIV. These print and video resources have been developed in partnership between Positive Life, the NSW Multicultural HIV and Hepatitis Service, and Pozhet, and funded by NSW Health.

Article: 'Access to PrEP for People who Don’t Meet the Medicare Eligibility Criteria'. Targeted at prescribers, the article details how people who are ineligible for Medicare or do not meet the eligibility criteria in the national clinical guidelines may still access PrEP.

New Videos: Living with Hepatitis B. Produced by Hepatitis Queensland, the videos (My Story and My Work) detail one woman's experiences living with hepatitis B. Key messages include the importance of hepatitis B testing, treatment, monitoring, stigma and discrimination.

Article: 'One-stop Liver Shop'. This article describes the success of a project which developed a mobile app which delivers hepatitis B information in local Aboriginal languages.

Toolkit: NOHep have released a toolkit to support the advocacy efforts of patient organisations, NGOs and individuals working in the field of viral hepatitis.

Article: 'How Co-design Delivers Agency, Advocacy and Real-world Impact'. Published by VicHealth, this article introduces readers to the co-design process and provides case studies of successful co-designed interventions.

New Resource: Doin it right. The Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council have developed this resource kit to assist people working with young Aboriginal people to deliver sexual and reproductive health education appropriately.

TRAINING

Cultural Safety Training Module 6: Engaging with Aboriginal Communities. AHCWA is currently running training in Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs for those working with Aboriginal Clients. Perth training dates are June 25, 26, and 29. For bookings and information please contact Deborah Cain.

Bunbury Youth Workshops. The YEP Crew are running a two-part workshop series in Bunbury on July 25 and 26. This free series is aimed at upskilling youth workers and people who work directly with young people on trans & gender diverse sexual health issues.

Aboriginal Health Promotion Short Course. Held over 5 days in July, AHPA's free short course will yarn about health promotion to share knowledge, skills and ideas that will support health promotion within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The course is suitable for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples already working in the health sector, those wanting to move into the area and those wanting to incorporate health promotion principles into their role.

Health Promotion Short Course. Run by Curtin University, this flexible 12 week online course will provide you with the skills needed to plan, implement and evaluate a health promotion program. The course begins on August 13.

Pathway to Policy. Places are still available for PHAWIA's new research translation project. The course will be relevant to anyone interested in learning how to add value to evidence so that it may be used in a variety of settings, policies and environments. Contact PHAIWA to register your interest. 

Professional Development in Outcomes Measurement. The Centre for Social Impact, UWA, are hosting this two-day workshop in September, dates TBC. The workshop will build the capacity and capability of your organisation and staff to better measure, understand, and report the difference you are making.

Expression of Interest. SHQ are seeking EOIs for theoretical sexual health education and training for nurses. Modules include: The Bare Essentials, STI Clinical Management, Cervical Screening Theory, and Contraception and Communication. Contact clinic.ed@shq.org.au for an EOI form. 

CONFERENCES & EVENTS

Community Consultations: Men's Health and Wellbeing. Health Networks are hosting community consultations with anyone holding an interest in men's health and wellbeing to receive feedback on the draft WA Men's Health and Wellbeing Policy. The next consultation will be held on June 29.

2018 LGBTIQ Women's Health Conference. Proudly co-presented by the Victoria AIDS Council and ACON, the Conference focuses on the health and well-being needs of all LGBTIQ women within Australian communities. The Conference will be held on July 13 and 14 in Melbourne.

Health Promotion Symposium 2018. The AHPA Health Promotion Symposium will be held on August 23 and 24 in Canberra. The Symposium is an opportunity to share and assess where we are in health promotion and what we need to do, to be better placed to ensure a healthier population within supportive social, built and natural environments.

Australasian HIV&AIDS Conference. Held in Sydney on 24 to 26 September, this is the premier HIV conference in Australian and the Asia Pacific region. 

International Union for Sexually Transmitted Infections Asia Pacific Sexual Health Congress. Held on 1 to 3 November in Auckland, New Zealand, this event will allow delegates to engage in interdisciplinary networking and discuss challenges and opportunities in sustainable sexual health service delivery.

GRANTS & SCHOLARSHIPS

National Competition for Excellence in Hepatitis C Health Promotion. Applicants must submit a hepatitis C promotional resource that they and/or their organisation have created, that reflects one or more of the 11 recommendations for guiding the design and presentation of health promotion resources for hepatitis C prevention. The winner will receive a prepaid VISA card to the value $5,000. The competition closes on July 9.

JOBS

Nurse - GP Project. HepatitisWA are advertising for a nurse to head up a project which will encourage and educate GPs about prescribing the new treatments for hepatitis C. Applications close June 26.
