Needle and Syringe Postal Service. The WA AIDS Council are now offering a needle and syringe postal service for the Perth Metro, as well as Regional and Remote WA. This service will be ongoing once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, as they are hoping to reach clients in the regions that are unable to access NSP services. To place an order you can fill out the online form, or do so by email. More information can be found on the their website.
Sexual Health Journal Call for Papers. The Sexual Health Journal is calling for abstract submissions for their upcoming special issue: Ending AIDS in the Asia-Pacific region by 2030: Are we on the right path? Epidemiological, policy and intervention insights. Deadline for submissions is July 15.
The National LGBTI Health Alliance: 2020 Webinar Series. The National LGBTI Health Alliance. A series of webinars have been developed called #WebinarWednesdays, and are an opportunity to come together and raise awareness of the health and wellbeing issues for LGBTI experiences of COVID-19. Hear from community leaders as they share their stories and their work, with an aim to illuminate the health and wellbeing impacts of the pandemic for different LGBTI communities and individuals in this series.
Regional Advisory Group for BBVs and Sexual Health and COVID-19. Australasian Society for HIV, Viral Hepatitis and Sexual Health Medicine (ASHM). The Regional Advisory Group (RAG) is the regional arm of ASHM's Taskforce on BBVs, Sexual Health and COVID-19. The RAG has released a number of evidence based guidelines to HIV and HBV care in the remote and regional context, which can be accessed here.
Socially Distant STI Testing. Youth Education Peers (YEP) Project. During the COVID-19 pandemic sexual health services have been operating a bit differently. The YEP Project has profiled the Socially Distant STI Testing initiative at Northbridge's Sexual Health Quarters clinic. Check out the video, which explains how the process is done, and answers questions on how you can get a STI test during this time.
WAAC Remote Counselling Service. The WA AIDS Council is offering free counselling services for people in the Perth Metro or Rural areas across WA living with HIV, including family and friends of those living with HIV and the broader LGBTQI+ community. Services are available 9am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday. Click here to book an appointment.
CONFERENCES
23rd International AIDS Conference. The AIDS2020: Virtual conference will enable delegates to access and engage with the latest HIV science, advocacy and knowledge. It will be a compelling combination of virtual sessions and community networking, including exhibitions, workshops, the Global Village, satellites and pre-conferences, that will reach audiences around the world. Conference dates: 6 -10 July.
2020 HIV Glasgow: VIRTUAL. This years HIV conference will be delivered online, with more information to come. The deadline for scholarship applications is July 10, and the deadline for abstract submission is June 26. Conference dates: 4-7 October.
Asia Pacific AIDS & Co-Infections Conference (APACC) 2020. Virology Education. APACC is a conference that provides a much-needed scientific platform that focuses on HIV related developments, issues, and needs in the Asia Pacific region. The abstract submission deadline is July 31 and scholarship application deadline is August 3. Conference dates: 15 - 17 October, Bangkok, Thailand.
Australian Public Health Conference. Public Health Association of Australia. The theme for the virtual conference is: ‘Public Health action: Response to bushfires, climate and coronavirus’, which responds to a series of realities which, in different ways, are ‘crises’ impacting on public wellbeing. Earlybird registrations close July 19. The abstract submission deadline is June 28. Conference dates: 19 - 30 October.
2020 Joint Australasian HIV&AIDS and Sexual Health Conferences: VIRTUAL. ASHM. The joint conference will now be delivered virtually this year, and ASHM would like to hear your thoughts on how the conference should be run. More information to come. Taskforce on BBVs, Sexual Health and COVID-19. ASHM. A series of webinars have been developed to discuss the scientific, clinical, BBV and sexual health service delivery and social implications of COVID-19. Past webinars include: Mental Health First Aid during COVID-19, The Indigenous Health Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic and Interim recommendations regarding COVID-19 and people living with HIV, HBV or HCV. Online.
Syphilis Outbreak in the Indigenous Community. Shine SA. This free webinar is presented by Adelaide Sexual Health Centre and will provide an update on syphilis in the Indigenous Community. General practitioners, nurses and/or midwives, Aboriginal Health Practitioners and Aboriginal Health Workers are encouraged to register for this training. June 16. Online.
HIV s100 Prescriber Update: HIV and COVID-19. ASHM. In an ever-changing COVID-19 landscape, this seminar will provide HIV s100 prescribers with opportunity to hear the latest developments and impacts of the pandemic on PrEP, ART, and people living with HIV. June 16. Online.
Hepatitis C in Primary Care – Supporting patients using Telehealth services. ASHM. Primary care providers can play a critical role in the elimination of hepatitis C (HCV) in Australia by 2030. This workshop will provide an overview of the management of HCV in primary care settings, including case finding, testing, patient assessment and treatment, and will provide guidance on how to support your patients using Telehealth services. June 16. Online.
Gender Equality and COVID-19. La Trobe University. Early analysis confirms that COVID-19 is disproportionately affecting women in their employment and domestic lives, in their access to sexual and reproductive rights, triggering greater incidence of gender-based violence. This public lecture will explore the gendered implications of COVID-19 and ask how we can continue to drive transformative change for gender equality during and after the disaster. June 17. Online.
Protective Behaviours. SECCA. This workshop is designed to train school based educators how to teach Protective Behaviour lessons using the SECCA App. June 17, West Perth.
