HIV and Mobile Populations Seminar

 

The Department of Health, SiREN and the WA AIDS Council held a stimulating seminar on changes in the HIV landscape particularly concerning mobile populations both in Australia and overseas on the 29 July 2014. It aimed to direct policy development and strategic planning in Western Australia.

Discussion topics included:

  • the changing HIV epidemiology in WA, Australia and overseas
  • the impact of international travel and who is at risk
  • migrant health and HIV in Australia and overseas
  • barriers to treatment access for migrants and temporary visa holders
  • developing partnerships with new sectors.

 

Delegates heard from a range of invited international, interstate and local speakers including:

  • Dr Valerie Delpech (Public Health England)
  • Dr Chris Lemoh (Monash Health, VIC)
  • Dr Graham Brown (Australian Research Centre for Sex, Health and Society, VIC)
  • Associate Professor Jaya Earnest (Curtin University, WA)
  • Professor Peter Aggleton (Centre for Social Research in Health, University of New South Wales, NSW)
